How To Throw a Great New Year’s Eve Party Without Going Broke

December 27, 2016 9:07 pm

Everyone loves a New Year’s Eve party. Money can be tight a week after Christmas, however. Even if you’re on a budget, there’s no need to skip ringing in the new year. Instead of spending a bunch on an expensive night out, you can host your own party to celebrate with friends, family, and new neighbors. If you’re a new homeowner, the holiday is a great way to get acquainted with neighbors in new housing developments.

It can be a very memorable occasion to cheer the new year in your new home. Here are some helpful tips that will help make your party a success while keeping costs under control.

New Housing Developments Call for Personal Invitations

You can save money by making your own invitations. Try to make them simple yet festive. Use colorful pens to write out your address, contact information and time of your party.  Add seasonal stamps or stickers like a star or a snowflake to make them look fun.

Once you have your invitations in hand, it’s time to invite your neighbors to your New Year’s Eve party. When you’re living in a new neighborhood, it’s best to deliver the invitations in person. It provides a great opportunity to introduce yourself and become familiar with other people living in your new housing development.

Your neighbors are bound to offer to bring goodies to your party. It’s good manners to say yes, and a great way to keep your overall costs under control. It’s not practical to have every type of food and beverage on hand for a party. By allowing your guests to bring their favorites along to share, you’ll increase the chances they’ll feel right at home. It’s a great way to avoid busting your budget, too.

Use Leftover Holiday Supplies for Decorations

New Year’s celebrations tend to be more glitzy than Christmas parties. This is one occasion when everything should simply sparkle! Your decor should reflect optimistic thoughts of what the new year will bring, as well as how happy you feel living in your new home. Lots of holiday decorations can do double duty for your New Year’s Eve party. Reuse leftover wrapping paper and ribbon to make new decorations. These items include glitter and color that perfectly capture the New Year’s spirit.

String bows and ribbon from the ceiling for a fun environment or dance floor area. Cut wrapping paper into interesting shapes, or spell out “Happy New Year!”. You can save a lot by simply augmenting the existing holiday lights and decorations with a few centerpiece items suitable for your New Year’s Eve bash.

Keep Food and Drink Simple

Set up a snack table with plenty of chips, pretzels, and popcorn to keep guests energized through the night. Your party will also be a great excuse to share an overflow of holiday cookies and candy that would have gone uneaten. A few appetizers that won’t be too heavy on your wallet can be provided as well. It’s smart to avoid any dishes that require a lot of cooking. You’ll want to mingle with your guests throughout the night, so keep kitchen duties to a minimum.

Alcohol can be one of the largest expenses for hosting a party. A punch bowl keeps costs down, and it’s a great way to get people chatting as they gather to get their drinks. Punchbowl recipes are widely available, and they’re almost always easy to mix. They usually only require adding champagne or sparkling wine to sangria or fruit juices.

Set Up a Photobooth

A New Year’s Eve party in new housing developments will be especially memorable if you set up a photo booth. Hang a festive piece of fabric and place several fun accessories like party hats and wigs for guests to wear while they pose for pictures.

A Polaroid camera is a great way to provide instant photos and lasting memories. If you don’t have one, place a computer nearby and host the pictures on a revolving slideshow. It’s a great icebreaker to meet new neighbors in new housing developments. You can even host a contest with a small prize for the funniest photo taken that night.

Don’t Forget the Kids

New housing developments are a great place to raise children. Although they may not be up at midnight for your new year’s celebration, it’s smart to plan for some neighborhood children to be at the party. Set up a kids area complete with snacks, a craft table, or games where they can congregate.

There’s no reason why everyone can’t be included in the evening’s fun. Plan activities like all-ages board games or karaoke to increase the excitement.

Enjoy the Coming Year In Your New Home

With a few simple money-saving tips and a little planning, a successful New Year’s Eve party can make you the toast of the block in new housing developments. It will be the start of a new year, new friendships with new neighbors, and wonderful memories in your new home.
